Ugandan General survives attempted assassination moments after making tweet about peace

A Uganda minister of works and transport Edward Katumba Wamala  survived an attempted assassination on Tuesday, June 1 at the Kisota road in Kisaasa.

Two armed assailants sprayed bullets at Wamala’s convoy killing his daughter, Brenda and his driver.

The incident happened just shortly after he wished his country people a happy new month asking them to keep peace and obey COVID-19 rules

“I wish you a month of happiness, success, peace, prosperity, good health, and wealth. Remember to social distance, sanitize, and wash your hands regularly,” said Wamala.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident

According to Daily Monitor, Wamala was spotted walking walking out of his vehicle with his clothes stained in blood.

The 64-year-old was rushed at the Medipal Hospital in Kampala for treatment.

The Nilepost reported that Wamala had a bullet wound in his left arm and chest and was traveling to a funeral of a close relative.
