UDA Nominations: Protests in Bomet as Police Impound Marked Ballot Papers

Protests broke out in Bomet County during the ongoing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations over rigging claims.

UDA aspirants seeking tickets to contest for various elective posts protested the exercise after police impounded marked ballot papers and ballot boxes.

Speaking to journalists, Bomet gubernatorial seat aspirant Wilson Sossion said the ballot papers has been marked in favor of a particular candidate.

“The ballot papers have been marked in favour of a particular candidate and there is a defined lineup and team within this arrangement,” he said.

On the other hand, Bomet’s Women Rep aspirant Joyce Korir engaged the county’s Senate aspirant, Hillary Sigei in a heated confrontation over marked ballot papers.

Korir caused a scene at a polling station vowing to stand against election irregularities and ensure the exercise is successful.

“Some individuals here (in reference to Sigei) are embarrassing the whole deputy president. You can’t intimidate me because I am a widow, we will not relent,” she said.

Reacting to the same, locals fired a warning at Deputy President William Ruto, threatening to decamp to Azimio la Umoja and support Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

“Tumesema kama wanainchi hii haitaendelea, hata mfanye aje, hatutakubali tunataka haki… Nataka kuambia Deputy President leo hii ukijaribu kutulazimisha kwa hii process, tunaambia Raila karibu Bomet,” a local said.
