Top Newspaper Headlines for September 15: CBC to be reviewed in 2022

The county’s top newspapers on Wednesday, September 15 highlighted concers that parents have raised on the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The dailies also reported on efforts by presidential aspirants to woo the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

Presidential hopeful and businessman Jimmy Wanjigi is set to appear before yhe National Assembly to explain his association with a company a the center of a tender dispute at Kenya Airport Authority (KAA).

The businessman was linked to a Chinese firm dubbed, ACEG-CACTIC JV which is demanding KSh 17.6 billion from the government following the cancellation of the Greenfield Terminal Project.

Wanjigi is expected to clarify if he influenced the award of the tenders to the company that he alleged co-owns.

According to the daily, the Ministry of Education has revealed that the controversial Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) will be reviewed in its fifth year of implementation.

Basic Education PS Jwan Julius said all concerns raised by parents and education stakeholders will be looked into in the coming year.

This comes even as Education CS George Magoba argued that implementation of CBC is unstoppable despite uproar from a section of parents and education stakeholders.

According to the daily, Deputy President William Ruto has irked a section of Jubilee leaders by using his official Karen residence to hold political meetings.

Following the ban on political gatherings, the DP retreated to his Karen home where he has been hosting delegations from different parts of the country.

DP Ruto is now under fire for hosting the meetings after being accused of using public resources to facilitate the meetings.

Led by Majority Leader Amos Kimunya and Minority Leader John Mbadi, the leaders argued that the residence was built and maintained by tax payer’s money and it has been converted to Ruto’s 2022 campaign headquarters.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is on a mission to lure President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard ahead of the much anticipated 2022 polls.

On Tuesday, September 14, the forme VP toured the region and held meetings with governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Martin Wambora (Embu), and Governor Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi).

Kalonzo also noted that it would be an honour for him if Waiguru joined the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) so as to sort out the issue of gender balance.

The Swahili publication highlighted demands that leaders from Mt Kenya region are making to presidential candidates seeking votes from the region.

Led by former Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiujuri, Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua and former Gatanga lawmaker Peter Kenneth, the laders set conditions for presidential hopefuls seeking thw region’s votes following a meeting on September 13.

During the meeting, the leaders demanded that the presidential hopefuls pick running mates from the region.

They also want an assurance that the region’s leaders will get appointments to powerful government positions during the formation of the next government.
