Top Newspaper Headlines for November 12: Interior ministry writes to DP Ruto claiming officers deployed to his residence are starving

The country’s top newspaper headlines on Friday, November 12 reported that the Ministry of Interior wrote a letter stating that Administration Police deployed to Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen residence were starving.

On the other hand, the dailies also reported that Deputy President William Ruto had asked President Uhuru Kenyatta’s and his handshake partner to retire from politics in 2022.

Former Prime Minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga is set to commence his Ukambani tour on Friday, November 12 in a bid to popularise his Azimio la Umoja bid.

The ODM leader mer Ukambani leaders including Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) on Wednesday, November 10.

“I will sit with delegates from the three counties and use the opportunity to get their ideas. I am looking for partners not followers,” said Raila.

Silvia Bichanga, 28, who is married to a Kenyan man said she decided to start hawking mandazis after his husband who fixes electronic appliances closed shop.

Bichanga alongside her friend, Eve Ochieng’ opened a stall where they also sell pizza pockets, apple pies, mango pies, pretzels and tea.

“Life became so hard after we got married that we were forced to close down a computer shop where my husband used to work,” Bichanga said.

Deputy President William Ruto has launched a scathing attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta accusing them of neglecting the poor.

Speaking to a roadside rally on Thursday, November 11, the DO stated that the duo must be sent home come 2022.

The DP further claimed that Raila and Uhuru were thankless leaders who turned their backs on him despite lending them support in the past.

“Hawa wadosi wako sawa. Acha waende nyumbani (These leaders are well off. Let them go home),” he said.

According to the Swahili publication, billionaire Jimmy Wanjingi has expressed confidence that he will beat ODM leader Raila Odinga in the party primaries and fly the party’s flag in 2022.

Speaking recently, the presidential candidate stated that he has support of over 3,000 ODM delegates.

“Delegates from 12 counties have endorsed my bid,” he said.

The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has written a letter to the Office of the Deputy President asking it to provide food for AP officers deployed to guard Ruto’s Karen residence.

According to the letter, the AP officers were starving as they were not allowed to leave the premises to buy food.

The ministry said officers deployed to the DP’s private residence in Karen, Koitobos Road were also affected.

“This is to bring to your attention that the above officers have not been consistently provided with food rations or meal allowances to enable them to discharge their mandate effectively and efficiently,” the letter read in part.

However, Ruto’s spokesman David Mugonyi denied the claims and said the officers were under inspector general Hillary Mutyambai.
