Top newspaper headlines for June 23: Uhuru to visit DP Ruto’s Rift Valley backyard in bid to counter DP’s wave

The country’s newspapers reported about the heated political turf in the country ahead of 2022 General Elections.

The newspapers further reported about President Uhuru Kenyatta’s planned trip to Ruto’s backyard is interpreted as a move to counter DP’s influence.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to visit Deputy President William Ruto’s backyard, Rift Valley, in what has been termed as a plan to counter DP’s popularity.

According to Uhuru’s allies, the tour’s main agenda is to dismiss allegations by Tanga Tanga that Uhuru shunned the Big Four Agenda for the BBI.

The president is set to visit Trans Nzoia in a yet to be known date where he will be handing out title deeds and later move to Uasin Gishu where he will laundch the Eldoret bypass and issue more title deeds.

His next stol will be Nakuru where he is supposed to issue title deeds and and give Nakuru its city status.

According to this publication, three principals from the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition are discussing on whether to revive the coalition or not.

The three, Amani National Congress’s Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper’s Kalonzo and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula had a meeting on Tuesday, June 22 where the deliberated about NASA’s future.

The concluded by stating that they would be issuing a comprehensive statement about their decision in the due course.

According to the coalition’s agreement, it can be dissolved if three the parties agree to walk out.

According to the Swahili publication, One Kenya Alliance is seemingly under rocks after one of its principal, senator Gideon Moi failed to show up at a meeting.

The alliance is made up of Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula, Amani National Congress’s Musalia Mudavadi and KANU’s Gideon Moi.

Trouble in the alliance comes due Moi’s liaison with ODM leader who the other alliance principals term as a betrayer.

Apart from that, Moi has been missing the alliance’s meetings but attending Raila’s.

The Star reported that Deputy President William Ruto might select Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri as his running mate in the next year’s General Election.

Even though the matter is yet to be settled, the second in command’s camp has already agreed to the proposal.

Ruto on the other side is planning his 2022 dream team with multiple bigwigs in his camp struggling to get his attention.

The DP also came out clear that he will be vying for presidency under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket after frustrations in Jubilee.
