The country’s top newspapers on Tuesday, February 15 reported on President Uhuru Kenyatta plans to run a campaign against his deputy, William Ruto ahead of the August 9 General Elections.
The dailies also highlighted the latest move by the newly-formed DAP-K Party to join forces with ODM to support Raila Odinga’s presidency bid.
The daily reported that ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya has dismissed claims indicating that he is set to join DP William Ruto’s camp.
The rumours of his alleged move to the DP’d camp started after the Kakamega governor skipped an Azimio La Umoja rally in Western.
However, Oparanya vehemently denied the claims, noting that he would be foolish to join the DP’s camp as he plays a critical role in promoting Raila’s presidency bid, especially in Western Kenya.
According to the newspaper, President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to kick off a campaign against DP Ruto in a bid to. discredit him and make sure he fails to clinch the country’s top seat in the August 9 polls.
Unlike in the past where Uhuru would ignore atracks from the DP and his allies, the newspaper reports that this time around, he is set to counter them head-on.
A section of politicians allied to Uhuru said Kenyans should expect more salvos directed at the DP and his team once the head of state kicks off his planned rallies.
According to the newspaper, envoys from the international community have put a section of top government officials on the spot over elections rigging claims.
Following the reckless claims by Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege, the envoys are now demanding free and fair elections ahead of the August 9 General Elections.
The same was discussed in a meeting between the envoys and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Monday, February 14 at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.
According to the Swahili publication, the newly-formed DAP-K Party and ODM have joined forces to support Raila’s presidency bid.
Leaders drawn from both parties declared that they would do everything within their power to ensure that Raila clinches the top seat post-August 9 polls.
Led by Bungoma county ODM Chairman Ali, the leaders noted that the relationship between ODM and DAP-K seeks to wipe out the Kenya Kwanza coalition from the region.
