Top Newspaper Headlines for April 15: One Kenya Alliance divided over Mudavadi, Gideon Moi 2022 ticket

The country’s top newspapers reported on some cracks that has emerged on the One Kenya Alliance as some forces are reportedly pushing for a Musalia Mudavadi-Gideon Moi ticket come 2022.

The dailies also reported on the progress of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) with proponents pushing for an August referendum.

BBI proponents are pushing for a referendum in August, 2021 as the constitution cannot be amended a year to the General Elections.

The BBI secretariat co-chairmen Junet Mohamed (MP Suna East) and Dennis Waweru (former Dagoretti South MP) said they are counting on both houses – National Assembly and Senate – to approve the constitutional amendment by May.

“We are on track; if parliament passes the bill in May, the president will receive it and hand it to the electoral commission as required by law,” said Junet.

According to the Swahili publication, a section of Mt Kenya leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta have reportedly hatched a plan to lock out Deputy President Williams Ruto from the region.

Former MPs Peter Kenneth and Elias Mbau of Gatanga and Maragwa respectively said they would form a committee to tame the DP’s influence in the region.

Political pundits argue that DP Ruto has made inroads into Mt Kenya and has massive support.

ODM party has once again refuted claims that its leader Raila Odinga will work with Deputy President William Ruto come 2022.

According to ODM Chairman John Mbadi, the party ia currently focused on the BBI before engaging in any talks to do with alliances.

“Our focus is still on BBI. We want to get it out of the table, after which we can have other discussions around the 2022 elections,” Mbadi said.

Cracks have emerge at the newly formed One Kenya Alliance over claims that some forced are pushing for a Mudavadi-Gideon Moi ticket in the 2022 polls.

However, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s camp is said to be becoming jittery over the proposal noting that he and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula would be locked out.

According to a MP who spoke to the publication, external forces are seeking to install candidates of their choice that excluding the Wiper leader.

“We will not accept; we better use a scientific method to arrive on who will be the flag-bearer and his running mate without direction from somewhere,” the MP said.

Detectives have arrested another suspect in the murder of National Lands Commission (NLC) communication officer Jenniffer Wambua.

The suspect, Peter Mwangi Njenga alias Sankale was arrested at his house at Ebulbul, Ngong on Tuesday, April 13.

According to detectives, Njenga was among the last people seen with the deceased at the scene where her body was found.
