Speculations as Kithure Kindiki Skips DP Ruto’s Running Mate Naming Event

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki skipped Deputy President William Ruto’s event on Sunday, May 15 at his Karen residence where he was unveiling Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate.

The much anticipated unveiling of Gachagua as the Kenya Kwanza running mate was preceded by a church service at the DP’s residence, also referred to the Hustler’s mansion.

According to the Nation, division was witnessed in the DP’s political faction since a section of leaders leaned towards Gachagua while another section rooted for Kindiki.

Speaking shortly before naming Gachagua as his preferred partner, DP Ruto acknowledged Kindiki’s absence, however, without offering any explanation.

“I want to thank my lawyer and friend Abraham Kithure Kindiki who became the runner up. Even though the current senator of Tharaka Nithi is not here with us now, he brought a lot of passion to this contest,” he said.

Kindiki stepped down from the Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial race in favour of incumbent, Muthomi Njuki.

Reacting to the same, Njuki thanked the senator for his kind gesture, noting that he is an excellent team player who doesn’t hold grudges.

“He is not a pushover. He is a firm guy who speaks his mind. If he is not happy with something he will make it very clear,” the governor said.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance settled on Gachagua after a lengthy deliberation held at Ruto’s official Karen residence in Nairobi on Saturday, May 14.

While making the announcement, Ruto described the outspoken lawmaker as a successful elected politician and businessman and a living representation of a true hustler.

Gachagua emerged the best among other candidates who were being considered for the position including Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru.
