Speaker Justin Muturi Signs Deal to Join DP Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza

The National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has officially joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by Deputy President William Ruto.

Muturi signed a deal to join the alliance on Saturday, April 9, in an event that was held at the Hermosa Hotel in Karen, Nairobi.

Present to witness the signing were the other Kenya Kwanza co-principals ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula as well as other Ruto allies.

“I am a proud Kenyan that we are today joined by a party that has a history in the Republic of Kenya. A party that has had a footprint in the transformation journey of the country having been led at one time by former President Mwai Kibaki,” said Ruto after receiving Muturi.

Initially, Muturi who had announced vying for the presidency under the Democratic Party (DP) had ruled out forming a coalition with other parties, vowing to single-handedly go up to the ballot.

The politician’s move to work with Ruto raises questions if he will shelve his presidential ambition and back the latter in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Political pundits also weighed that there is a possibility that the second in command might appoint Muturi as his running mate given that he has strongly hinted at choosing his deputy from the Mount Kenya region.

The developments come on the deadline day set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for political parties to belong to a coalition political party.

Muturi’s move to join the hustles elicited mixed reactions on social media.

Eduu Eduu said: “It’s now official that William Ruto has 96% of Mt Kenya votes and Raila Odinga has 2% the remaining 2% is undecided.”

Timm Kirunjee said: “Muturi already knew the winning team. Raila is a failure and anyone in his camp should think twice.”

Elias Kinoti said: “He has close to nil influence, and btw what does he do?”

Ochieng Onyiego said: “The hate on Raila in Mt. Kenya has dictated him to do so. For you to survive in Mt. Kenya politics, just hate Raila. Don’t even reveal your manifesto, just tell them how Raila is a bad person.”
