Shaffie Weru takes Homeboyz Radio to court, demands KSh 21 million for unfair dismissal

Controversial radio presenter Shaffie Weru has sued Radio Africa Group over unfair and unlawful dismissal.

Through MMA Advocates, the presenter gave his former employer Homeboyz Radio, a radio station owned by Radio Africa Group, one week to pay him KSh 21.1 million for the unfair termination.

The aforementioned amount was from Shaffie’s entitlements while working at the radio station including his full salary and allowances.

He demanded to be paid KSh 682,500 which is his gross monthly salary, thus 12 months salary of KSh 8.1 million and gratuity KSh 682,500 for every year of service total to KSh 21.1 million.

Shaffie in his demand letter noted that he was shocked to receive a suspension letter from the company claiming that they were investigating insensitive comments made by him on air.

He noted that he was placed on half salary during the suspension period.

Shaffie also noted that he received numerous calls from friends at 11 pm alerting him of the suspension letter circulating on social media.

About two days ago, presenters Shaffie Weru, Joseph Munoru, alias DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville were fired by Homeboyz Radio over comments made by the breakfast team on Thursday morning, March 25.

Shaffie, Joe and Neville were accused of victim shamming a lady who was reportedly thrown off the 12th floor of Ambank House by a man she met on Facebook.

The presenters said ladies are too loose and available for strangers.

In their statement, the Radio Africa owned radio station expressed regrets, further distancing themselves from comments made by the three.

“The comments of erstwhile employees, were neither authorized, approved nor cleared with the company nor was the subject discussed and or authorized by the company’s senior leadership,” said the station.
