President Uhuru Kenyatta has endorsed ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency in the August 9 polls.
Speaking during the Sagana meeting on Wednesday, February 23, the Head of State stated that he would support the former Prime Minister for the sake of the country’s peace.
Uhuru added that his deputy, William Ruto who has declared interest in the same seat can wait arguing that Raila has the interests of Kenyans at heart.
“An old man on a stool sees farther than a boy on a tree, let me stick with the old man who I can talk with. I appeal you to support Raila. Help him to the top. Even my friend Ruto, he can become president some day akishika line,” the Head of State said.
In December 2021, Uhuru indirectly endorsed Raila and launched a scathing attack on DP Ruto whom he described as power-hungry.
In an indirect reference to Ruto, Uhuru warned Kenyans against electing the DP whom he said is in a hurry to take over the reigns of power.
He said politics is not a sprint but a marathon insisting that Kenyans will be in for a rude shock on the developments in the State House race.
“Uongozi sio sprint, ni marathon. Wewe utakimbia hapa ukifika pale pumzi imeisha lakini mzee amekanyaga pole pole akupite ukiwa bado kwa barabara. Mos mos, mos mos, pole pole mos mos,” Uhuru said.
