A lady named Clare Muthoni was on Thursday, March 25 arrested by detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for faking own abduction and demanding ransom from her mother.
In a post shared on Facebook by DCI, Muthoni worked closely with her friend called Diana Wanjiku while plotting the whole story.
The two, wrote Muthoni’s ransom note ready to extort KSh 30,000 from Muthoni’s mother Jane Wamuyu.
According to detectives the mother received disturbing text messages from Muthoni’s alleged abductors who said they wanted KSh 30,000.
The mother told police officers that the kidnappers had also warned her against contacting the authorities if she wanted her daughter alive.
“Failure to which her throat would be slit open” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations quoted from the message Muthoni’s mother received
The scary text messages were accompanied by a photo that truly proved that Muthoni was seized.
The photos showed the middle aged lady hands and legs tied, purportedly shaken and a sharp knife which was to slit her throat was placed next to her just to make everything look real.
Wamuyu who was warned by the alleged abductors not to inform authorities decided to make a courageous move and reported the case at Karen Police Station.
“Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau immediately took over the matter. Their intelligence led investigations.” DCI wrote.
The two young ladies were nabbed inside a pub in Misiani village, Kangudo, Machakos County while enjoying their favorite drink.
“After laying their ambush, anticipating to pounce on the kidnappers, they found out that there were no kidnappers other than Muthoni who was at a local Bar. Accompanied by a friend identified as Diana Wanjiku, they had taken up residence at Website Bar, after escaping from Nyeri where they both lived.”
Clare Muthoni and her photographer in the script Diana Wanjiku are in lawful custody awaiting arraignment.
