Rigathi Gachagua, Kithure Kindiki leave William Ruto’s Residence amid standoff

There was a standoff at Deputy President William Ruto’s official Karen residence after Senator Kithure Kindiki and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua walked away.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance members gathered at Ruto’s residence for deliberations before announcing the person who will deputise the DP in the forthcoming August 9 General Election.

Kindiki and Gachagua, who both hail from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, are touted as the frontrunners in the running mate race.

The two left amid speculations that there was a disagreement in the Kenya Kwanza team over who to choose between the two.

It is reported that most leaders from the region were inclined towards Kindiki deputising Ruto while a handful supported Rigathi.

In the incident, Kindiki was the first one to drive off from the DP’s residence before Rigathi followed him.

The meeting started in the morning and by the time of going to the press, journalists were still standing at Ruto’s residence patiently waiting for the announcement.

The rest of the coalition’s members are still holed up in a meeting.
