Celebrated genge musician Mejja Okwonkwo has recently received recognition from former premier Raila Odinga who praised him for his talent and creativity.
Through his Twitter page, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader proved to many that he is a lover of local music and would do anything to push them to the next level.
Also known as Baba, he disclosed that Mejja’s sizzling song dubbed Tabia Za Wakenya which he listened to recently touched him so much.
In a tweet shared on Tuesday, July 27, Raila lauded Mejja saying his song carried some truth.
He picked a line from the song, and supported it by saying that it’s true how Kenyans would be fast and early to arrive in parties other than in important meetings.
“Mejja’s Tabia za Wakenya hit was playing somewhere this morning and it got me thinking it is true!: Masaa na mkenya lazima atachelewa lakini sherehe?!…..
Our Musicians are really creative. Wonderful week ahead fellow countrymen!” Raila wrote.
However, things have not been good on Mejja’s part as his song Tabia Za Wakenya got pulled down from YouTube over copyright claims.
The song was deleted from YouTube after an upcoming artist complained the the singer stole parts of his music.
While addressing the allegations mejja said,
“I am dealing with a lot of hate. I will never give in. But I am done being the humble guy,” he stated.
He was also irked by YouTube’s rules owing to the fact that Tabia Za Wakenya would be re-uploaded two weeks later.
“God is with me. You can slow me down, but I am not giving in. God above everything,” he concluded.
