Protests in Mumias over Senator Malala’s arrest

A section of Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s supporters blocked roads in Mumias town demanding his release.

The protestors lit tyres and barricaded roads using stones for the better part of Tuesday morning, August 18.

The Senator who is currently being held at Mumias Police Station was denied bail by the police yesterday.

Malala arrived at the station from Nairobi at 10pm where he was grilled for an hour by the Mumias West Sub County Criminal Investigation officer Robert Muriethi.

However, the outspoken Senator refused to be taken into holding cells demanding that he be released on bail avail himself at Mumias courts on Tuesday.

Malala claimed that the cells are dirty and had not been sanitised.

Malala is set to face charges of contravening COVID-19 containment measures.

The MP spent the entire day on Sunday at Mumias where he distributed free food and sanitisers to the locals.
