OKA Threatens to Terminate Pact With Azimio Over ‘Doctored’ Document

Cracks in the Azimio One Kenya Alliance continue to widen after four parties threaten to terminate the pact.

KANU, Wiper party, United Democratic Party (UDP) and The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) claim that coalition documents submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu are not the documents that they had initially signed.

Led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the parties that make up the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) say the document was secretly altered and now want Nderitu to halt the registration of the Azimio coalition.

For instance, the number of caucuses in the initial document is three but it increased to four in the document submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties.

“It is apparent that the Agreement lodged on the 1st April 2022 was withdrawn and certain clauses amended or altered without the consent of all the parties and signatories,” read the letter in part.

The parties also argued that the members of the coalition council had been increased from seven to eleven, prompting them to reach out to Nderitu before further steps are taken.

This comes barely a week after eight political parties threatened to walk out of Azimio over claims they were being sidelined in decision making within the party.

“Coalitions agreement documents have not been shown to us and yet they are insisting that we should sign. We will not agree to this

“There is an attempt to run nominations through zoning. Our candidates are already prepared to compete and zoning has no place in the current arrangement,” the statement said in part.

The caucus warned that they will pull out and form their own coalition should the coalition fail to meet the demands made by the parties.
