Obama mourns Mama Sarah in moving tribute

Former US President Barrack Obama has mourned his grandmother Mama Sarah Anyango Obama who passed away on Monday, March 22.

While euologising the late family matriarch Obama disclosed that to them she was called Dani while to others was affectionately known Mama Sarah.

Obama stated that Mama Sarah acted a bridge to his current and a past that he missed.

“It was her stories that helped fill a void in my heart,” Wrote Obama.

The heartfelt tribute went deep into the life and time of Mama Sarah that many never knew before he joined active politics

Obama praised the late pridefully over the fact that she got married while a teenager and did not get formal education but was able to raise a great family in a tiny village in Alego.

“She raised eight children, tended to her goats and chickens, grew an assortment of crops, and took what the family didn’t use to sell at the local open-air market,” he wrote

Despite not being biological mother to Obama’s father, Obama disclosed that she raised his father as her own.

It was in part thanks to her love and encouragement that he was able to defy the odds and do well enough in school to get a scholarship to attend an American university,” he continued.

According to Obama, Mama Sarah’s home was a refuge to them during times their families ran into difficulties.

We will miss her dearly, but celebrate with gratitude her long and remarkable life,” he concluded.

The 99-year-old passed away on Monday, March 29 while undergoing treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital in Kisumu.

Mama Sarah will be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 30, according to Muslim customs at her home in Kogelo.
