NPS bans police roadblocks to curb increased bribery

The National Police Service (NPS) has banned all roadblocks and static police checks across the country following multiple complaints from the public.

According to Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai, numerous motorists sent complaints that some police officers were taking advantage of the stops to extort bribes.

In a meeting graced by Mutyambai, traffic commandant and the Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua they noted that corruption among traffic officers was increasing and as a result they had put up the ban.

Mutyambai further noted that they are taking any complaints by members of the public keenly and if any officer is found on the wrong stern actions would be implied.

The IG further said that it’s evident enough that commanders have cooled down and not making required charges to the rogue officers even after multiple complaints.

As a result, Mutyambai ordered that the commanders will be supervising traffic in their respective areas of operations.
