Newspaper headlines for June 25: DP Ruto in a dilemma over his 2022 running mate

The country’s top newspapers reported about the predicaments facing Deputy President William Ruto’s decision in selecting his running mate ahead of 2022 General Elections.

The dailies further reported about the saddening incident that happened in Kajiado county after a KDF helicopter carrying 20 soldiers crashed and burst into flames.

The Standard

According to the Standard, Deputy President William Ruto has changed from using diplomatic neceties when criticized by hi opponents to now taking them head-on.

He was nice still when his allies got ousted from from government jobs and other parliamentary committees.

He has recently, however, decided enough is enough and gained courage to directly take on his boss Uhuru Kenyatta who vowed not to support him in the coming General Elections.

Uhuru declared his support on one of the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition principals something that did not go well with Ruto.

A Kenya Airforce helicopter crashed at the Ole Tepesi area in Kajiado county on Thursday, morning, June 24.

It had on board 23 soldiers who were on a training mission. 13 of the soldier died on the spot while 10 were left with severe injuries.

According to reports, most of those who passed away were junior soldier who sat at the rear of the plane.

It is reported that the plane crushed due to poor visibility caused by the dusts in the Kajiado plains.

“The female pilot might have experienced spatial disorientation and loss of situational awareness due to the dust,” a source told People Daily.

This publication reported about the split observed in Ruto’s camp in the Mt Kenya region following who he should pick as his running mate in the 2022 General Elections.

There are fight that his running mate should come from the West side while those from the East side argue it should be from their side.

The Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga plans to use his handshake friendship with President Uhuru Kenyatta as a push to victory in the 2022 presidency.

The former premier has lost four times vying for presidency and when results are out, he disputes them.

Political analysts states that Raila lost all the elections because poor support of the system, one which he has with President Uhuru Kenyatta now.

For all those years that Raila contested for the presidency, he lacked the support of the government and the deep state which is critical in Kenyan elections,” political analyst Martin Andati argued.

The National Super Alliance principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi had a meeting on Thursday,June 24 where they discussed about the future of the coalition.

The meeting came after the burial ceremony of the Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo at Cital Church along Valley Road in Nairobi.

Raila urged Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to reunite with him for the betterment of the country.

“Jakoyo’s spirit should work to unite us going forward,” Raila said.

On Kalonzo’s part, all he wants is the NASA principals to work together in unity ahead of the 2022 elections.

Mudavadi pleaded with the NASA principals to trust each other as they continue moving forward together.
