Police officers have arrested 56-year-old Geoffrey Rono for impersonating a student in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations in Nandi County.
According to a police report, Rono was nabbed in the exam room sitting for the KCSE exam on behalf of Cleophas Kavulavu at Ndurio Secondary School in Aldai, Nandi South.
Deputy County Commissioner John Tanui said that the suspect sneaked inside the exam room without permission from the invigilators and sat for the first exam, English paper 1 on Friday, March 26.
The officers disclosed that Rono had not carried his Identification Card and even wrote wrong particulars on the paper.
“He was arrested while preparing for another exam and we had to wait for him to send for his ID Card from home. That was when we noted he was impersonating a candidate,” Tanui said.
The student, Kavulavu is reported to have registered for the final examination in the school last year.
“We raised that alarm and the police intervened and arrested the suspect. The examination officials also suspended the index number of the student. Investigations have been launched to establish the whereabouts of the candidate registered last year, ” Tanui said.
The student’s whereabouts are yet to be known and officers are speculating that he conspired to be impersonated.
“We are working with the teachers to find out the missing candidate to assist us in the investigation of KCSE malpractice before arraignment of the suspect in court on Monday,” said Owuoth.
