That a good number of Kenyan cops have a great love for payola is not in question.
And the citizens have almost accepted that it is right to bribe law enforcers who find them in the ‘wrong corner’
However, a Nairobi man has narrated how he cunningly outwitted police officers who asked for a bribe at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
According to the man who goes by the name Justo Misiko on Facebook, he had dropped a friend who was running late.
Misiko’s friend had out of fear of missing his flight disembarked from the car that was still in motion and ran to the lounge.
He was then arrested for dropping off a passenger at the wrong area. He said the two police officers had entered his car with bravado and gone ahead to ask for a KSh 4K bribe.
Upon bargain, the cops accepted to take KSh 3,000 which he sent via mobile money transfer.
The funny bit was the male officer was so sure of receiving the cash that he gave his female colleague KSh 1,500.
Moments after, Misiko called Safaricom who reversed the money. He claimed he blocked the police officer who kept calling relentlessly.
“They both enter into the car with their exaggerated self importance and ask me to drive to the police station, I pleaded with them like any other middle class total Kenyan orphan would.
So I stop the car and we agree on something, they ruthlessly ask for 4K, I said I did not have that kinda money on me, I instead said I would raise only 2K, they look at each other in a seeming ‘ oh not so bad a deal in the morning”
“They let me leave, immediately I forward that transaction message to 456 and as usual Safaricom never lets you down, you will always have a say in your money, so they successfully reversed my money and I blocked the idiot who has since attempted calling me over 20 times, this police officers think we pluck money from some trees in this town?” he concluded.
