Mwangi Wa Iria to give every Kenyan a cow if elected president

Outgoing Murang’a governor Mwangi Wa Iria has promised to give every Kenyan a cow if elected president under his one home, one cow initiative.

Speaking to the press, the county boss argued that his initiative was better that Deputy President William Ruto’s ‘bottom-up economic model’ and Raila Odinga’s KSh 6,000 monthly stipend.

“I want to assure all Kenyans that I will enact the one home, one cow initiative into law if they elect me as their next president so that my supporters in the rural areas can own a cow,” the governor said.

In October 2021, Raila promised KSh 6,000 monthly stipend to jobless youth if elected president, terming it the “biggest social welfare programme in Africa”.

Speaking in a roadside rally in Nyandarua county, the ODM leader said he knew where the money was and that his pledge was a debt he owes Kenyans.

“My opponents say it is an empty promise meant to hoodwink Kenyans to back my candidature, I want to tell you this is a debt that I will fulfil if elected,” he said.

The proposal sparked reactions across social media with presidential hopeful Jimmi Wanjigi observed that the country would spend KSh 300 billion every year should Raila’s proposal be implemented.

“In government books, they are saying we have 4 million unemployed youths, and if you give Sh 6,000 for each of these youths, it means you will spend 300 billion per year,” he said.
