Murathe Says Raila Will Win With or Without Mt Kenya Votes

Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has hit headlines yet again after claiming that ODM leader Raila Odinga does not need Mt Kenya votes to become president.

In an interview on a local TV station on March 15, Murathe said the Azimio la Umoja flag bearer will become president post-August 9 polls with or without Mt Kenya votes.

The Jubilee VC argued that in the previous election, Raila was close to winning the presidential race yet he had no support from the region.

He added that with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s support, the ODM leader will easily clinch the top seat in the forthcoming elections.

“In the previous General Elections, Mr Odinga has always got close to winning without the support of Mt Kenya. In the August 9 General election, he will beat his competitors hands down, with little or no support from Mt Kenya,” Murathe said.

Murathe asked the people of Mt Kenya to vote for Raila in the upcoming polls or else they will be sidelined should the DOM leader win the election without their support.

“This is the message to Mt Kenya. Raila is winning this election. So, Mt Kenya voters should better decide whether he is winning with them onboard or without them on board. Odinga wins without them on board, they know they will be consigned to political dustbin and opposition,” he added.

The Jubilee VC also took a swipe at Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi for joining Deputy President William Ruto through the Kenya Kwanza Alliance saying it has no impact.

“Mr Mudavadi’s presence in the Kenya Kwanza alliance has no impact. The Western Kenya vote is still intact. Musalia’s own Governor and MCA are from ODM,” Murathe said.

Murathe also stated that the perception that DP Ruto had gained ground in Mt Kenya region was aimed at confusing voters.

“They are trying to create a wave not necessarily for Mt. Kenya but for the rest of the country to confuse people, particularly their own backyards of the Rift Valley, that ‘look Mt. Kenya is with us, so you either join us or be out of government’

“These are clever optics. It is a voter turnout strategy which is very smart for Ruto,” he noted.
