Mt Kenya University has taken action following the murder of Celestine Muthengei, a second-year student at the university.
The student who was pursing Community Development was stabbed several times by her jilted lover on Monday, June 14.
In a statement dated Wednesday, June 16, the university noted that all students who witnessed the gruesome murder have been taken in for counselling.
“All the affected students including those that witnessed the grotesque incident, have all been taken under guidance and counseling,” read the statement.
It further read;
“The institution fully understands how such kind of trauma can affect young minds and thus measures have been put in place to ensure these students are put under the best care for their well being.”
The deceased met her death inside her hostel room at around 8pm.
The killer reportedly stabbed the student in the chest, on her back, head and limbs leaving her for dead.
Muthengei’s roommates who claimed to have witnessed the heinous act disclosed that the suspect entered their hostel room and asked for the deceased.
He then asked “you thought I could no longer find you, you have been cheating on me” before drawing a knife from his pocket and started piercing the deceased mindless
“He entered our room and calmly asked where the deceased was. He looked and acted polite and none of us could suspect he could be having an ill motive. In fact, some of us thought he was a classmate to the deceased,” one of the students said.
