Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has blasted the former prime minister Raila Odinga for giving orders to government employees at the scene of Likoni Ferry tragedy.
Raila on Saturday, October 5 toured the area to briefed on the progress on the recovery mission of bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu who drowned after their vehicle slid into ocean midstream from the ferry.
It is after the briefing by head of the recovery coordination team Col Lawrence Gituma that he ordered the dredging exercise ongoing not far from the site be halted as the debris contributed to poor visibility.
“I want to give an order here that the dredging works stop immediately so that those who are working here can work without interference,” he said during a church service in Meru.
On Sunday, Gachagua blasted Raila saying the ODM leader was still the opposition leader despite his dalliance with President Uhuru Kenyatta brought by the handshake.
“ Kenya is an intriguing country. I saw opposition leader give orders to government employees..We’re asking civil servants to ignore such orders. That fellow has no capacity to issue any order to anybody in government,” said Gachagua.
The MP described Raila’s action as the height of absurdity and jokes.
“ Pretending he can give instructions in the country is the height of absurdity. How many presidents do we have in Kenya? We have Uhuru Kenyatta as President and William Ruto as his deputy,” said the Jubilee MP.
On Sunday, October 6, a spot check by Gotta.news revealed the dredging was still going on despite Raila’s tough order. When pressed for a comment, Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna said the prime minister’s decision was still “being deliberated on”
