The man who snatched gun from police officer in Kisumu and shot dead two and left others nursing serious injuries has finally been identified.
According to reports by sleuths, the family identified their kin after his pictures were published online with an aim of finding his identity.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the man as Ambrose Odero Owino.
DCI reported that Odero grew up in Siaya County and and sat for KCSE in 2016.
His family disclosed that he studied at Sengere Secondary School where he sat for National Examination and scored a B minus.
His mother, Catherine Akoth said that even if his 25-year-old attained such a good grade, he was unable to join University due to lack of fees.
Akoth said that Odera even received an admission letter from to join Maseno University but due to lack of fees he had look for an early employment in Kisumu.
“A visit by DCI detectives to his former school indeed confirmed that he was a student there and had scored an aggregate grade of B minus emerging the seventh best candidate in the school,” the sleuths established.
He luckily secured a job at mattress company in Kisumu until 2019. He had not yet applied for an identification card.
While applying for the job, the youth presented a scanned national ID belonging to Fredrick Oduor Odera which he had fodged and superimposed his image.
After sometimes at the job, every employee was required to submit their ID’s and it was when he start absconding duty due to failure of producing his personal documents.
“But his employment was short-lived because, towards the end of 2019, every employee was asked to produce his or her original identity cards, in an exercise that was spearheaded by the National Employment Authority,”
Drama ensued in Kisumu after after a man wearing a hoodie and a mask snatched a gun from a traffic police officer and fired bullets.
According to a police report, the suspect approached the police officer who was controlling traffic Jomo Kenyatta Highway, and grabbed his gun before firing bullets at members of the public.
The report added that a city tout and a woman who was passing by the streets were among those who were shot.
The woman was shot in the thigh while the tout who was stopping the suspect from escaping was shot on his hand.
Angry residents pursuit the man and lynched him upon arrest.
