A Tanzanian woman was recently arrested in Mombasa for conning locals by pretending to be a disabled person.
According to reports, police officers acted on a tip-off from members of the public and arresred the 23-year-old woman.
Confirming the arrest, county inspectorate deputy director Ibrahim Basafar said they also learnt that children who beg alongside the woman belong to Kenyan parents.
“Our officers have been investigating this syndicate of con artists from Tanzania. We even have a court case against one suspect who traffics them to Mombasa,” Basafar said.
He added that the woman earns between KSh 15,000 and KSh 20,000 daily.
Bashir also cautioned Kenyans against conspiring with con’s to exploit Kenyans, further advising Kenyans to avoid falling for beggars who often fake disabilities.
