Mom Pays Son KSh 200K For Staying Off Social Media For 6 Years

How long can you stay off social media?

Now, a young man was recently awarded over KSh 200, 000 by his mother after staying off social media for more than 6 years.

According to CNN, Lorna Goldstrand challenged his son Silvert Klefsaas to stay off social media for 6 years upon which she would give him the aforementioned amount.

Speaking on the same, Klefsaas said staying off social media for that long was no big deal for him given he was just 12 years old at the time and he felt he did not need social media.

“I thought it was awesome. I thought, ah, what’s 6 more years? I wouldn’t say there was ever a time where I thought I was about to break. As it went on, it was more of a pride thing,” he said.

While off social media, Klefsaas said that his friends mostly kept him up to date on what was going viral and who posted what on social media.

Lorna said she was inspired to challenge his son after coming across a story where a woman gave her daughter KSh 181,000 for staying off social media for four years.

“She got so obsessed with keeping up her Snapchat streaks that really it was affecting her mood. It was affecting her friendships,” Lorna said.

“I mean, it was like an intervention. She was really, really upset, but it was not even three weeks later that she thanked us and said she was so happy to not have her phone.”
