Wajir governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud was on Monday, May 17 impeached by senate.
Mohamed was impeached over gross misconduct, abuse of office corruption and other related charges.
A total of Twenty-five (25) senators endorsed the decision by the Wajir County Assembly to impeach the governor.
During the vote, 25 voted for Abdi’s impeachment while two against while four abstained.
The Senate committee led by Nyamira Senator Okong’o found the governor guilty of all charges.
During the roll call the politicians played independent unlike the previous impeachments where political differences were observed.
In this case a good number in Deputy President William Ruto camp supported while others opposed.
Senator Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a), Christopher Langat (Bomet) voted Yes while Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Samson Cherergei voted against the motion.
