Churchill Show comedian Jasper Muthomi, alias MC Jessy has withdrawn from the South Imenti parliamentary race.
The comic stepped down from the race in favour of Mwithi Kathaara.
Kathaara was given a direct nomination ticket by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to contest for the seat.
Following the new development, MC Jessy will now join the presidential campaign team ahead of the August 9 General Elections.
“MC Jessy (Jasper Muthomi) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favour of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti seat,” Deputy President William Ruto announced.
This comes days after Bishop Margaret Wanjiru stepped down from the Nairobi gubernatorial race in support of Senator Johnson Sakaja.
On Saturday, April 9, DP Ruto announced that Wanjiru will instead contest for the county’s senatorial seat forcing Karen Nyamu to step down.
Wanjiru vowed to support Sakaja’s gubernatorial bid and promised to campaign for him.
“In politics, It comes a time when one must give and take. That is exactly what has taken place here. Today I chose to step down for Sakaja in the Nairobi Governor race,” Wanjiru said.
Nyamu, MC Jessy, Lucheli and musician Ringtone join a list of UDA aspirants countrywide who have stepped down for stronger candidates.
