Emurua Dikiir Member of Parliament has been arrested after confrontation with police over the Mau evictions.
The MP together with Ololunga MCA Jefferson Langat were arrested for allegedly inciting locals against Mau Forest evictions.
Moments before the arrest captured in a viral, the two are seen removing police road blocks while leading an anti-government protest.
“ This is our country and we can go wherever we want…huwezi funga barabara,” Ng’eno is heard telling police officers at a road block.
The two are arrested shortly after and bundled into a waiting police van before being driven away to an unknown destination.
CS for Environment and Forestry Keriako Tobiko has maintained the eviction aims to conserve the water tower. This is as Kalenjin MPs have protested the move saying it was barbaric.
The Mau Forest Complex is one of the five water towers in Kenya, providing the upper catchments of over a dozen major rivers including Nzoia, Yala, Nyando and Sondu.
The forests of the Mau Complex when combined cover an area of over 400,000 hectares and spans four counties of Narok, Nakuru, Bomet and Kericho.
