Mandera: Heavy gunfire, explosion rock Kenya Somali border in Bula Hawo (videos)

Heavy gunfire and explosion rocked Bula Hawo town Mandera on Kenya-Somali border on Monday, March 2 following clash between Jubbaland Security Forces (JSF) and Federal Government of Somali forces.

Sources say FGS soldiers engaged their Jubbaland counterparts on premise of hunting for a senior Jubbaland official who they labeled as a ‘rebel’.

FGS soldiers have been camping at Bulahwa, a town neighbouring Mandera, for the past month, planning a raid to capture – Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur- a fugitive Jubbaland minister, who has been hiding in the county.

Abdirashid arrived in Mandera town on January 30 and was booked into a local hotel.

He escaped on January 28 from a Mogadishu prison where he had been incarcerated since August 31, 2019.

Various reports from the area seen by say the fighting lead to jamming of telecommunication in the town.

Three people are said to have been killed from the fighting, which saw the Kenya Defence Forces join the fray in protest to forceful entry FGS into Kenyan soil.

The nationalities of the 3 and the casualties is yet to be determined.

Videos from the incident shows heavy engagement between the two forces causing a thick smock.

Another video shows residents running away from the border as gunshots rent the air.

This comes a day after at least 11 MPs from the Northern Kenya entered Somalia without seeking permission from relevant state agencies including their boss Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi.
