A middle-aged man was recently arraigned in court where he admitted to escaping from jail where he was being held.
According to a report on Spring24 TV, the man said he escaped from lawful custody to take care of his children back at home.
The man was in court for escaping from custody which is contrary to the laws of Zambia.
The 32-year-old identified as Agami Mudenda escaped from a correctional facility in Choma town on February, May 18.
He said he was concerned about his kids welfare while under custody forcing him to find his way out of the correctional institution.
Mudenda also explained that life in prison was so hard for him and he could not cope with the environment.
The man had been sentenced to six months in prison after being convicted of theft.
Following the escape, the magistrate sentenced the man to six months’ imprisonment and hard labour to run consecutively with his previous sentence.
