Man Fined KSh 100k for Stealing Cooking Oil, Sugar, Rice From Supermarket

A man has been jailed for one year or pay an alternative fine of KSh 100,000 after admitting to stealing and handling stolen goods.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo, Alvin Linus Chivondo admitted to stealing from Naivas Supermarket.

According to the charge sheet, Chivondo stole five kilograms of Dawaat rice, 500 grams of American gourmet honey and 500 grams of Fahari ya Kenya tea leaves from the supermarket.

He also made away with five litres of Fresh Fry cooking oil and two kilogrammes of Kabras Sugar all worth KSH 3,165.

Chivondo is said to have stolen the goods on April 10.

The charge sheet indicated that he had been caught stealing from the same supermarket on April 3 but he was pardoned by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Central Police Station.

In his ruling, Kagendo noted that the suspect was not honest having being caught stealing at the same supermarket twice.

“This is a clear indication that the supermarket is prone to theft by people who are reaping from where they have not sown,” ruled Kagendo.
