A section of Kenyan politicians and social media users have blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta over his sentiments about Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking during Labour Day celebrations on Sunday, May 1, the Head of State castigated DP Ruto for criticizing him over the high cost of living.
Uhuru said the DP abandoned him forcing him to run government affairs alone. He wondered where the DP had been to help him handle the crisis.
“Instead of coming to help me, you are in the market with insults and calling yourself a number in this nation. You should have let me look for another person who could have helped me,” he said.
However, DP Ruto fired back at his boss maintaining that he should direct his anger to people that took his responsibilities.
The DP said individuals assigned his duties and his bromance to ODM leader Raila Odinga should be blamed for his woes.
“Sorry my boss, I feel your pain. Those you assigned my responsibilities and “project mzee’ have let you down miserable. They bangled our Big 4, killed our party and wasted your second term. Boss, I am available, just a phone call away. Sadly, last Cabinet was two years ago,” he wrote.
DP Ruto’s retaliation to Uhuru sparked a debate on social media with netizens, including politicians, taking issue with the President blaming the DP for his woes when he sidelined him.
Uhuru was also put on the spot for frustrating DP Ruto’s allies.
Sen. Susan Kihika: When you were chest thumping, firing us left, right & center and assigning the duties of your Principal Assistant to your sycophants you forgot the clock was ticking and the buck stops with you! Now carry your failures with the same energy and stop shouting. Too little too late!
Essy Okenyuri: President Kenyatta had to vent out for the enduring love The DP received in Nyayo & Nyeri. This was the veritable opportunity to get it out of the chest. The fits of anger, outbursts and blame game does and will never work. He can support his project without invoking the name of Ruto.
Jimmie Em: I respect Ruto for giving Uhuru space as the head of state who claimed he’s in total control of the government. Lamenting about Ruto now makes me wonder who was in control of the said government.
Musalia Mudavadi: When was their last full cabinet meeting… Sasa tumebaki na less than 100 days to the elections. If you have not solved the problems of Kenya surely you’re not going to solve them in the next less than 100 days. You just take it easy and let the next government of Kenya Kwanza come in.
