National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has slammed senators and governors for subscribing to imperial tendencies at the expense of the taxpayers.
Duale who is also the Garissa Town MP was speaking in National Assembly during debate on County Allocation of Revenue Bill on Wednesday, September 18.
He said it was time to investigate the ongoing Senate mashinani sittings being held in Kitui County, adding they were characterized by ostentatious spending of taxpayers’ money.
“ I’m told the chair the Speaker is sitting on Kitui was bought by the Senate at a tune of KSh 50 million,” said Duale.
The Majority Leader further noted the Kitui County Assembly had been refurbished and equipped with computers ostensibly to cater for senators’ few days stay in the county.
He said while the Executive shied from grandiose show off, the senators and governors were pre-occupied with expensive shows during public functions.
Duale recalled an incident where he saw a mobile toilet and tents allegedly belonging to Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua being ferried in a truck.
The senators are in Kitui for Senate Mashinani meaning the plenary and committee sittings will be held in the county from September 16 to 20 in a bid to bring the Senate closer to the people.
