Lugulu Girls High School in Bungoma County has been closed after students protested allegedly claiming one them was raped in a bathroom.
The angry students took it to the roads demanding for the arrest of the teacher.
The students accused the principal and the management at large of inaction over the defilement cases.
“Our principal, instead of listening to our agony, says that we should not soil the name of the school since she wants to bag the principal of the year award,” said one student.
The school management decided to shut down the school in order to allow for thorough Investigations to the case.
The school sent texts to the students parents disclosing that the students will be permitted to leave school on Wednesday, December 9 from 6.30 am.
“Your daughter will be coming home tomorrow, Wednesday, December 9, 2020, as from 6.30 am,” the text read.
According to Bungoma East Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General Aggrey Namisi the students were irked by the principal’s slow response on the matter.
Namisi disclosed that the students had already complained about the development but their cries fall on a dead ear.
“The students have been sent home and will be communicated to on when to resume after a thorough probe has been conducted,” the Knut official said.
