Kenya Railways bows to public pressure, suspends ban on food and beverages on SGR

The Kenya Railways has suspended the directive to ban food and drink from outside into the SGR.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Saturday, October 5, the firm said it had rescinded the decision following customer feedback.

It further  said it had “instituted negotiations with service providers to offer improved services in the trains and stations.”

“In lieu of this, KR wishes to inform our esteemed customers that a decision has been taken to suspend the directive until further notice to allow for conclusion of the negotiations,” read the notice.

Early in the week, the firm was bashed by a section of Kenyans after the notice that prohibited people from carrying home-cooked meals and beverages into the SGR.

Kenya Railways wishes to remind our passengers and customers that alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and cooked food are strictly prohibited into the termini and stations.

Those items will be confiscated at security checkpoints at the termini and train stations. Please note that items once confiscated will not be repossessed,” said the firm in a public notice on Wednesday, October 2.

Madaraka Express has been in operation for two years now.
