Kenei’s father accuses DP Ruto of abandoning family after son’s murder

John Chesang, father to the late sergeant Kipyegon Kenei has hinted on reviving the brutal murder case while accusing Deputy President William Ruto of abandoning his family after Kenei passed on.

Kenei was linked at Ruto’s office where he was station for eight years until his death on February 21, 2020 in case ruled as murder by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

While appearing at KTN News on Sunday, April 11 for a special investigations story, Chesang said that Ruto had distanced himself from the family even after making clear promises ahead of their son’s burial.

The father also found fault with the DP for ambiguously claiming during the burial ceremony that his life was at risk also after Kenei’s death.

Since then, no action has been taken and we have not communicated in any form whatsoever. We, the family, were expecting to see him (Ruto) because he had claimed that he would have been the target instead of Kenei. What action has he taken? He said during the interview

The family criticized Ruto for being silent over the matter even after slamming the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

He was also blaming the DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations). Why has he not informed us of any other entity he is using to carry out the investigations? He does not want DCI and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations), what does he want?” Questioned Chesang.

According to Chesang, Ruto showered them with the fake promises during a private meeting between himself and close family members of Chesang.

During his speech at the burial ceremony, the second in command had claimed that the DCI was compromised and wrongly used to pull him down.

Chesang further revealed that Kenei had tried twice or more to secure a transfer from Deputy President William Ruto’s office but failed all the time.

He tried to leave the office twice. There was no bad blood. Only because he was from the Tugen tribe while the rest were Nandi. He was not let out that often, and never got equal allowances. If he had been allowed to leave, this death would have been avoided,” remarked Chesang.

He further revealed that after his son’s death, he received a call from a leader in the high ranks informing him that Kenei had warned that without recording a statement he would be killed.

Kenei was supposed to record a statement involving fake KSh 39 billion arms deal.

Since Kenei’s burial in 2020, it seems the case was closed as there were no any updates from DCI or other investigative agencies.
