KCSE candidate engages police officers in heated confrontation after refusing to wear face mask

Drama ensued at a local secondary school in Kiambu County after a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate confronted a police officer who asked him to wear a face mask.

According to reports, the student also refused to be frisked and when a police officer intervened, a heated brawl ensued.

The student at Karigu-Ini Mixed Secondary School physically confronted the female police officer while hurling insults at her.

The incident forced another police officer to intervene after which the student ran out of the classroom, picked a stone and hit the windscreen of a police land cruiser.

He vanished into the neighbourhood and did not sit for the CRE Paper One examination, a police report indicated.

This came a day after a candidate in Burnt Forest, Uasin Gishu County fled the exam room in the middle of KCSE Mathematics Paper 2 claiming the paper was hard.

The school principal ran after the student and eventually caught him near the school fence.

He then offered the young man a cup of milk to calm his nerves and persuade him to complete the paper.

“One of our students had to be provided a cup of milk for him to finish the paper. Pray for us all. We’ve seen things,” the principal stated in reference to drama characterising the 2020/2021 exam.

The principal shared the incident on a WhatsApp group stating that the student’s behaviour was not surprising as the student kept demanding for entertainment during the Easter Holiday instead of preparing for the upcoming paper.

“Us who are with them, have no mercy….and when they are unable to solve the Math, we’ll chase and bring them back to finish government investment,” said the principal.
