Kalonzo Musyoka has given a glimpse of the behind the scenes grandstanding that nearly derailed the signing of the deal between One Kenya Alliance (OKA) and Azimio La Umoja.
Kalonzo painted a picture of obstinate Governor Charity Ngilu, saying she nearly succeeded in persuading Raila from signing the deal.
“Our negotiations with Azimio took long because of Governor Ngilu who had accompanied Odinga to the negotiations table.
I was accompanied by Kanu chairman Gideon Moi. Ngilu didn’t want anything to do with the Azimio-OKA grand coalition. She kept telling Raila not to sign into the deal,” said Kalonzo while speaking at an event in Tseikuru Technical Training Institute in Kitui County on Sunday, March 13.
While the Wiper leader did not delve into details of the grandstanding, his speech at the Jacaranda Grounds on Saturday, March 12 painted a picture of someone who was not happy with the whole process.
“ I had hoped that Raila would this time say Kalonzo Tosha but then I’ll support you again given we have come a long way,” said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo was reacting to a story by the Nation that reported on the six hour meeting at State House on Saturday, March 12 that had OKA principals, alongside Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta in attendance.
The lengthy negotiations saw the delegates’ conference start at 3 pm instead of the planned 8am, eliciting reactions from Azimio supporters.
