Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has ditched the UhuRaila led Azimio camp and is set to contest for the August 9 General Elections as an independent candidate.
Following the Azimio exit, the former Vice President unveiled Andrew Sunkuli as his running mate in the forthcoming elections.
Kalonzo made the announcement on Monday, May 16 while flanked by Wiper elected legislators and the Kenya African National Union (KANU) chairman Gideon Moi among other leaders.
While making the announcement, Kalonzo slammed Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for by passing him in the selection, something he was not ready to take this time round.
The Wiper leader further said Raila-Karua ticket ‘would face overwhelming challenge’
“I wish Raila and his running mate Martha Karua well…The ticket will meet with overwhelming challenges,” said Kalonzo.
Early on Monday, Kalonzo had announced the press conference, leaving netizens guessing the Wiper leader had intelligence that Martha Karua had been picked for the position.
Andrew Sunkuli, who hails from Kilgoris constituency, is a brother of former Kenyan ambassador to China Julius Sunkuli.
“My brother Raila knows I am naming my running mate. He came to my house to try and convince me to accept his choice. We did not agree and he said he would choose Martha and I told him I would choose my own running mate,” Kalonzo said.
He also noted that KANU Chairman Gideon Moi was on his part, dismissing claims that he would be supporting the Azimio team.
“I know that some people have been saying that Gideon has been sent to spy but he is with fully with us. My honest opinion is that OKA continues as originally established and we move on, compare notes. We have business to save this nation,” Kalonzo added.
