Kahinda Otafiire: Ugandan Minister Claims Poor People Won’t Go to Heaven, Netizens React

Uganda’s minister of Internal Affairs Kahinda Otafiire sparked a debate online after hitting out at the poor for lamenting their plight.

Speaking during an event at St Claus Comprehensive Trade School in Kyenjono, the minister said poor people will not get to heaven for asking favours from God.

Otafiire wondered why people ask favours from God yet they are in a position to work and earn money by themselves.

“Poor people will not go to heaven because they insult God through daily lamentations and accusations

“Why do you disturb God by asking Him for money, yet he gave you hands, eyes, brains, ears, land and rains, among others?” Otafiire posed.

He also took issue with individuals who don’t work but expect to be rich.

“If you do not use God’s tools, do not blame Him when you remain poor. Instead, strive to overcome poverty because being rich is glorious,” Otafiire added.

His sentiments sparked mixed reactions across social media as seen below.

@carter255: Good enough you said “why ask God for money” and not hands or land or ears. We don’t have the money so we ask him, be humble don’t just shout at us.

@Kinyera_jr: Atleast they are genuinely poor, but did not get rich the other way round; stop mocking us because of our wealth that you have grabbed.

@LatingLok: And that is always so people living a better life. But we were living in the village always pray to go. He should put us in your position and you come back down here then you would feel this situation.

A day earlier, Otafiire had hit out at leaders of Pentecostal churches, accusing them of getting rich while making churchgoers poorer.
