Jonah Manjari: Suspended CEO admitted to KNH

Suspended Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) CEO Dr Jonah M Manjari is currently receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The health facility confirmed his admission after Manjari failed to appear before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19 for grilling.

In a statement, KNH said the CEO was admitted on Thursday, August 20 and is receiving treatment in Ward 9B.

Manjarinwas supposed to appear before the Senate committee co.chaired by Senator Michael Mbito and Senator Kasanga to explain alleged misappropriation of COVID-19 funds.

The committee was also seeking answers on alleged irregularities in the procurement process of KEMSA medical equipment.

It is alleged that a double pricing from suppliers led to a loss of public funds amounting to KSh 7.7 billion.

KEMSA suspended Manjari alongside two other directors – Eliud Muriithi (Commercial) and Charles June (Procurement) – following allegations that the authority flouted procurement regulations.

The board appointed Operations Director Edward Njoroge Njuguna the acting CEO, George Walukana the acting Commercial Director, and Edward Buluma the acting Procurement Director.
