John Paul Mwirigi: Igembe South MP Threatens to Return Uhuru’s Car Gift

Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi has threatened to return a car gift that he was given by President Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2017 General Elections.

The youthful MP threatened to return the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado after Agriculture CS Peter Munya accused him of betraying Uhuru by supporting Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.

Mwirigi noted that has never insulted or disrespected the Head of State, adding that his allegiance to the DP will not change.

“I wish to appreciate the President for gifting me wholeheartedly without expecting anything in return. Now, recently a number of leaders have been castigating me claiming that by supporting DP Ruto, I am disrespecting the president

“I will be very categorical on this issue. I have never insulted or disrespected the president in anyway and I am not planning to do so at any time. But note, my allegiance to His Excellency DP William Ruto will not change at all,” the MP said.

Mwirigi added that he may return the car gift for the sake of his peace of mind and independence.

“Meanwhile, if at all CS Munya is speaking for the president,(since he has done this repeatedly on different occasions), I may, for the sake of my peace of mind and independence consider returning the gift

“I will not bear the blackmail by the CS anymore. And, If the attacks are an orchestrated plan to coerce me to change my decision, well it will be an exercise in futility,” the MP wrote on Facebook.

His statement came hours after engaging CS Munya in a heated exchange during a meeting where the CS told off Mwirigi for taking too long while making his address.

At some point, the MP’s microphone was disconnected but it was restored and the MP was allowed to finish his speech albeit with interruptions from the CS.

The MP sparked reactions with most netizens standing with the MP.

Lydia Mbiko: Yes better return you deserve better where was uhuru when you were compaining door to door he saw some brilliant leader in you after you had fought your way out.

Hillstone Ndung’u: I disagree with majority of people who are saying it’s arrogant and disrespectful, the president gives him willingly and at that time Munya and his troupe were not there and if a ‘gift’ will make you slave of independent of association it’s better you do away with the gift.

John Alex Odhiambo: This is the arrogance by our youthful politicians. We have lost it as a country. For your information, you disrespected the president the day you went against his wishes.

Tyson Gikundi: We are behind you honorable don’t be worries by munya’s futile claims on your relationship with the president. You’re a movement and they know it. Keep moving forward you have our support.
