A police officer who recently made headlines after returning KSh 450,000 he recovered from ana accident scene has narrated events that led to him giving back the cash.
Speaking in a recent interview, Job Oyagi said he and two of his colleagues rushed tothe accident scene shortly before proceeding to Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi to check up on the victims.
While at the hospital, the officer said the victims disclosed to the officers that they had left KSh 450,000 in their vehicle.
Oyagi and his colleagues colleagues headed back to the scene and after a long search, they found the money neatly tucked in a chamber at the bottom of the wreckage.
“The car had already been vandalised by the first responders so getting the money was a miracle. We also recovered various items from the car but we decided to keep them safe for the victims,” said the officer.
Together with Corporal Yusuf Dayib and Constable Peter Maina, Oyagi handed over the money to the couple who were receiving treatment at the facility.
“Serving is a calling. This is the work that I vowed to do and I cannot compromise my Christianity by oppressing the needy because all of us are children of God,” he said.
He added that they declined gifts from the injured couple noting that they were just doing their job.
“I was not alone, so I don’t want to take the credit. We did a good job and we all agreed to give the owners their money. At no point did we discuss anything about hiding the money,” he said.
