Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has passed away.
The sad news were first published via Twitter by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Philip Etale on Monday, June 14.
Etale, however did did not disclose the cause for the politician’s death.
“Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo has rested. Please pray for the family during this difficult moment,”
The politician, who is cousins to the Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has died at the age of 54.
The ODM party also mourned the late in a touching message on Twitter saying he defended the party and never shied away from speaking the truth
“Sad day for our party. We have just lost a gallant son of the soil, a founder member of the Change Movement & a three time Member of Parliament for Gem Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo… To the family, we say pole sana,” ODM said.
Millicent Omanga : Washington Jakoyo Midiwo alias “Otada”, as he was fondly called, was one of the few leaders who wld speak the truth whether it was to the govt or his acquaintances. His tenure as Gem MP will eternally remain a sparkling legacy. His death is a big loss to this country. May he RIP.

Raila Odinga: First elected MP in 2002, Jakoyo Midiwo served the people of Gem with passion for 3 terms.
An astute debater, a man of his word and honor, Jakoyo had a rare ability to work across the aisle and got along with members from across the political divide.
I will dearly miss him.

He was an independent minded person who served his people with utmost humilty, dedication and selflessness. His death is a big blow to our country. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
William Ruto: Mheshimiwa Jakoyo Midiwo was a vocal and dedicated figure who spoke his mind. He was outspoken, courageous and a tireless leader whose exceptional service to the people of Gem will be missed.
In 2007, making his grand appearance in public service, Midiwo won the general elections to represent the Constituency of Gem at the National Assembly under the ODM ticket.
Midiwo who had gone out of limelight made a political comeback after after a crucial role in the Building Bridges Initiative.
The former lawmaker was appointed to overseer ODM’s signature drive in the Nyanza region.
