Ida Odinga: Raila’s Wife Heckled in Meru

Mama Ida Odinga was on Saturday, March 26 forced to cut short her speech after being heckled at a women’s event. 

Mama Ida was heckled by the hostile crowd while trying to address attendees at the Catholic Women Association prayer day in Meru County. 

She tried to deliver her speech but the crowd could not let her filling the air with chants and heckles.  

While Mama Ida stood on the platform, the event emcee tried to calm down the crowd to no avail.

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi attempted to calm down the audience but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Through her Twitter page, Mama Ida later made a post noting that the event was a special celebration and a moment of celebration. 

“A day of reflection and prayer at the Catholic Women Association’s special celebration of the annunciation in Meru County. I have and will always hold onto faith that has remained a steady compass throughout my life,” she wrote.  

The heckling was condemned by Azimio la Umoja leaders, including Martha Karua who said the incident was politically instigated. 

“What happened at the Meru CWA function was uncalled for especially because the women through their leadership must have invited Ida Odinga as their guest. Why invite a guest then heckle or boo them?

“Probably a stage-managed affair for the sole purpose of political zoning which is unacceptable. We must reject politics of intimidation and thuggery, let everyone market their ideas without let of hindrance,” Karua wrote.
