Mama Ida Odinga’s gift to a Form Three student who gifted ODM leader Raila Odinga a portrait of State House has sparked mixed reactions online.
Speaking in a recent interview, Wellingtone Otieno spoke on how he came up with the portrait, adding that he would wish to meet the former Prime Minister in person.
However, his plea got the attention of Mama Ida who invited him to her office.
“Yesterday I was inspired by a form 3 student at Masikonde Day School in Narok who designed & built a miniature @StateHouseKenya dummy. Art strengthens critical thinking, through LindaKesho
“I commit to ensuring that Wellington & other talented children like him stay in school,” Mama Ida said in a tweet.
Later after the meeting, Mama Ida handed Otieno alongside others who had accompanied him boxes of biscuits each.
The photo sparked reactions from netizens who argued that the young man deserved more than just a box of biscuits.
Blessed Fridah: Sasa kweli… Biscuits of all things here in Kenya?. She should have given her a single box of fresh milk, it would sound better.
Johnam Mwarigha: A box of biscuits is worth ksh. 250, surely! It’ll cost that boy thousand of shillings to make several appointments with the dentist after eating those biscuits.
Kenneth Itonga: Some people have no appetite of spending money.
As earlier reported, Otieno said he got the idea while in Form One but actualized it two months ago.
Otieno termed the State House dummy his biggest project so far.
“I have made several artworks such as buses and I have even made a model of my dream house but the ‘State House’ was my biggest project,” he said
Otieno estimated the total cost of setting up the project at KSh 6,000, noting that he used plastics and cartons to come up with the walls and other structures.
