Homeboyz Radio Suspended presenters Shaffie Weru, DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville Musya following their insensitive remarks about a lady who was thrown off a building by her Facebook friend.
The three radio hosts, during their morning show, the Lift Off, engaged in a discussion concerning a 20-year-old Eunice Wangari Wakimbi who was thrown off the 12th floor of Ambank House during first date with a man she met on Facebook.
Their controversial chat, in which the presenters said Wangari called for the attack elicited outrage on Social media forcing them, and the media Firm to issue public apologies.
Hours later the Media firm, Homeboyz Radio, released a second statement which stated that they were done with disciplinary inquiry and came to a decision of suspending the trio.
The statement indicated that the trio were given enough and justified reasons for their suspension.
The three have been suspended for two weeks.
“During the suspension period the presenters and all other Homeboyz Radio staff presenters, producers and the Homeboyz social media team shall undergo mandatory gender awareness sensitisation training and training on ethical reporting and on-air discussion of women issues, sexual assault and gender-based violence,” Homeboyz General Manager Somoina Kimanjino said.
Kimanjino further said that the training shall be done by their legal team and a credible institution that is a key advocate for women’s rights and their protection from all forms of discrimination, bias and abuse.
“As the leading heritage youth station in Kenya, Homeboyz Radio will start changing the narrative around violence towards women,” Kimanjino assured.
